This is a follow up to the call in the June 11 bulletin for Mass intentions. We had taken intention only for the first six months of 2020, not knowing exactly what the Mass schedule would be with our merger. We also limited how many intentions we were accepting per person. However, we are able to take new Mass intentions through the end of 2020.
You may go back to the digital bulletin on June 14, 2020, where I explained exactly “What Is a Mass Intention?” In a nutshell, it’s the priest’s private prayer intention for that Mass. Priests take Mass intentions very seriously both in praying for the particular request and also because they were developed as a way to supplement a priest’s often meager income. A priest is able to take one $10 Mass intention per day.
Currently, not only do we not have enough Mass intentions to cover all the Masses through the end of the year, but also with Fr. Dave Green starting as our chaplain this past week, he is able to take a Mass intention each day. We did not have him figured into the mix. So, if you wanted a particular day for an intention that was already filled, Fr. Dave may be able to celebrate your intention on that particular day. In addition, we have removed all limits as to how many Mass intentions we are accepting per person as a way to fill up the remaining empty spots. Please fill out the accompanying form or call the Parish Office to schedule an intention. Thank you.
Parking Lot Mass A Huge Success
Last Sunday’s Mass in the Parking Lot at St. Benedict Church was a huge success. I was a bit nervous prior to the Mass because I did not know what to expect. I had never before celebrated such a Mass. We had between 200 and 250 people and I think that all who attended will agree that it fills a need by people who are not able to gather inside for Mass at the present time but who long to receive the Eucharist. With the uncertainty of Covid-19 going forward, look for more Parking Lot Masses in the future. For those wanting to attend Mass in the Parking Lot, the next Mass will be next Saturday, July 25, at 4:00 pm in the St. Francis Parking Lot. No reservations are needed for Masses outside. Look for details on our web page, john23.org, late in the week.
