In establishing Peter as the head of His church, Jesus established the pontificate; we believe that each pope is the successor of Peter. Just as the Holy Spirit came down on the Apostles at Pentecost, we believe that the Holy Spirit guided the writers of Sacred Scripture and those who assembled the Bible. The same Holy Spirit is present today, guiding the selection and actions of the pope, and entering into our lives through the Sacraments.
Baptism, Eucharist (Communion), Reconciliation (Confession), Confirmation, Matrimony, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the Sick are the seven Sacraments, signs and instruments of God’s grace. As Catholics we believe that the Eucharist is not just symbolic of the Body and Blood of Christ, but His Body and Blood in truth.
If you are new to Catholicism and want to learn more about the fullness of Catholic teaching and Tradition, we invite you to our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program, which answers these questions more completely, as well as preparing adults to enter the Catholic faith.
